LLANO — The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the cause of a fatal accident that killed a Llano woman July 29 on a remote stretch of Texas 29 West near a spot known as the eagle’s nest observation area.

Kelly Kristine Coleman, 42, was driving a 2011 Mini Cooper Coupe convertible about 12:30 a.m. when the vehicle left the roadway about seven miles east of Llano, according to Trooper Erich Neumann.

COLLEGE STATION — The Llano County 4-H meats judging team landed the grand prize during the 2013 Texas 4-H Roundup at Texas A&M University on June 10-14.

The team, consisting of James Smarr, Cole Perkins, Eli Tiffin and Shelby Martin, earned a trip to the American Royal in Kansas City, Mo., in October to compete at the national level. Joe Dan Tarter coached the squad on its way to the grand prize.

BURNET — Longtime Burnet City Council member, realtor and avid hunter and fisherman Wallace Patton “Pat” Riddell died July 27.He was 73.

Those who knew Riddell remembered him as a community leader who worked tirelessly to better his hometown.

Water-storage tank Water-storage tankWork is under way on a $1.8 million elevated, water-storage tank in the new Summit Rock Subdivision in the city of Horseshoe Bay. Workers on July 24 hoisted the metal storage tank up the concrete pedestal 100 feet above the ground in a remote area southeast of FM 2147 West. The new tank will provide 750,000 gallons of drinking water within the concrete pedestal and storage vessel. Officials say the new tank enhances water pressure, improves firefighting capabilities and increases the capacity to manage peak usage demands. LLANO — Campaigning through Texas has taught George P. Bush one “big” lesson.

“I’ve been traveling the state for the better part of three-fourths of a year. It’s a big state. LLANO — Walter Schumacher, known as the “Bee Czar” of Central Texas, not only catches bees, he knows what they’re thinking.

“If they bump into you like this, they’re telling you that you have 30 seconds to leave them alone or they’ll sting you,” he said, while standing just inches away from a feral bee hive containing an estimated 250,000 bees in the trunk of a giant oak at Badu Park.

MARBLE FALLS — Parents of returning students can get a jump on the new school year with online registration for Marble Falls Independent School District.

MFISD officials announced online registration begins Aug. 1 for returning students only. The process can be completed at the district’s new website, www.mfisd.txed.net. Officials said since the district has revamped its website, people should type the new address into their browser because existing search links have not “caught up” to the new site.
