BERTRAM — Bertram Elementary School students will see an increased police presence on campus this school year.

The Bertram City Council on July 23 allowed Mayor Dickie Allen to sign an agreement with the Burnet Consolidated Independent School District to have a school resource officer (SRO) on campus four hours a week.

BURNET — A Burnet County jury on July 18 sentenced 40-year-old Robert Michael Arteaga to 23 consecutive life sentences after he was found guilty of multiple child sex assault and child pornography charges, according to the 33rd/424th District Attorney’s Office.

COTTONWOOD SHORES — The City Council added a council member, approved the resignation of the city treasurer and gave more responsibilities to Mayor Donald Orr during its regular meeting July 18.

Cheryl Trinidad will fill the council seat vacated in June when Mary Ann Houser resigned for a job out of state. She was nominated for the spot by Stephen Sherry and unanimously approved and without other nominations.

HORSESHOE BAY — The Horseshoe Bay Resort is well-known for golf on Lake LBJ, but the first Beer by the Bay Music Festival aims to bring a Texas-sized serving of music, food and beer to the Hill Country.

“This allows us to get people out here who may not check us out because they’re not a golfer or don’t hit the lake all the time,” said Bryan Woodward, chief marketing officer. “We are part of the Hill Country community. Opening to the public allows us to work with more of a local community.”

MARBLE FALLS — A new speciality clinic has expanded to offer urgent care, radiology and diagnostic lab services aimed at giving residents more health-care choices closer to home, Scott & White Healthcare officials say.

The Scott & White Specialty Clinic-Marble Falls, located at 800 Texas 71 West just off U.S. 281 — the first phase of a multimillion-dollar medical complex — opened its doors June 3.

MARBLE FALLS — A week of rain has been both a blessing and a setback for the Marble Falls Rodeo Association.

Lightning that occurred about 6 p.m. July 17 forced the association and Burnet County 4-H members to postpone the junior rodeo, the event that occurs on the Wednesday before the weekend of the pro rodeo.

BERTRAM — A woman accused of shooting and killing her husband in their home allegedly texted a friend several hours earlier that she wanted to shoot her husband, chop him up and feed him to hogs, according to court documents.

Law enforcement entered into evidence a series of texts from a mobile phone believed to belong to 42-year-old Trichele Allen during a hearing July 12 in the 33rd/424th Judicial District Court in Burnet.
