BURNET — Burnet Consolidated Independent School District trustees approved a proposed tax rate for the 2013-2014 school year with $1.04 going to maintenance and operations and $0.2225 to debt service during a regular meeting July 15.

The rate will stay the same, which was suggested by Sarah Cervi, director of Business and Finance.

BURNET — Burnet Consolidated Independent School District board members approved the hires of 12 teachers and two coaches during their regular meeting July 15.

In addition, members accepted the resignation of softball head coach Alfonso Chavez.

MARBLE FALLS — The Marble Falls Public Library will be closing July 20 for renovations. The target re-open date is Aug. 26.

The project, funded by the Friends of the Marble Falls Library, will include new paint, carpet, lighting and electrical work.

GRANITE SHOALS — Neighbors and community members are coping with a tragic July 10 house fire that killed an 8-year-old boy and injured his grandmother.

“It’s going to take a while, a long time, to heal,” said neighbor Robert Lemaster, who helped pull the grandmother to safety. “Through time, hopefully, the family can cope with what has happened.”

GRANITE SHOALS — An 8-year-old boy is dead and a woman is in a San Antonio hospital after a house fire July 10 in the 1300 block of Kings Valley Drive.

MARBLE FALLS — A Lago Vista man was taken to the emergency room July 10 after a two-vehicle collision in a construction zone about four miles east of the city limits on RR 1431, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
