FROM STAFF REPORTS
BURNET — Burnet Consolidated Independent School District board members approved the hires of 12 teachers and two coaches during their regular meeting July 15.
In addition, members accepted the resignation of softball head coach Alfonso Chavez.
Contessa Huffman, director of Human Resources and Administrative Services, said Chavez left for a job at Early Independent School District.
Burnet High School girls athletic coordinator Doug Messer said he wasn’t surprised Chavez left. When Chavez accepted the Lady Dawgs job last year, he had hoped his wife would be hired in a staff position, too. But it didn’t happen, Messer said.
“Both need to make an income,” he said. “He found a good opportunity in Early.”
The coaches who were hired include Bryan Robinson as a history teacher and assistant football coach at Burnet High School and Tamura Hurst as a history teacher and girls coach at Burnet Middle School.
The board authorized Superintendent Keith McBurnett to hire qualified personnel once administrators make a recommendation.
