Scott & White Specialty Clinic in Marble Falls launches ‘urgent care’ services

MARBLE FALLS — A new speciality clinic has expanded to offer urgent care, radiology and diagnostic lab services aimed at giving residents more health-care choices closer to home, Scott & White Healthcare officials say.

The Scott & White Specialty Clinic-Marble Falls, located at 800 Texas 71 West just off U.S. 281 — the first phase of a multimillion-dollar medical complex — opened its doors June 3.

Scott & White launched the “urgent care” addition with extended weekday and weekend hours in July with a staff of physician’s assistants, a registered nurse, two licensed vocational nurses and a medical doctor.

“The emergency room is designed for significant problems, like if you’re having a heart attack or a car wreck, a stroke … life-threatening issues,” clinic director Dr. Chad Gray said. “‘Urgent care’ is meant to take care of more minor things, as if you’re walking into a clinic to get those things taken care of.”

Urgent care services will be offered on the first floor of the clinic, a 66,000-square-foot, three-story facility, which also primarily houses 15 specialties, including cardiology, dermatology, orthopedic surgery and gynecology. Other services soon to be offered are cancer treatment and obstetrics.

The next construction phase under way on the 120-acre complex is an emergency room and a hospital tower expected to feature 46 medical/surgical and intensive-care unit beds within a 200,000-square-foot facility. The hospital is scheduled to be completed in fall 2014.

For now, the new specialty clinic and urgent care wing fill a critical healthcare niche for the area.

“Putting all the specialities under one roof will provide the community a lot better access. People would have to travel to Llano or to the bigger cities,” Gray said. “We’re offering a closer location for all these specialities.”

Scott & White Healthcare manages nearby primary care clinics in communities including Kingsland, Llano, Marble Falls and San Saba as well as the Llano Memorial Hospital facility.

Other features at the Marble Falls specialty clinic are sports physicals, radiology and on-site diagnostic lab services.

“If you have an issue, such as being sick or injured, we take walk-ins with those issues. Examples would be if you have a cold or the flu, a cut, an abrasion or you’re injured in some way, even a fracture,” he said. “We’re glad to look at you. ”

The extended urgent care clinic business hours are 8 a.m.-7:30 p.m. Mondays-Fridays, 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Saturdays and noon-5:30 p.m. Sundays.
