BURNET — School starts next week, and you still have a list of things to get done before your kids are “school ready” such as haircuts, picking up a few supplies and maybe even scheduling an immunization.
Well, have no fear, the Burnet Fire Department is here. The fire department is hosting its annual Back-to-School Bonanza from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Aug. 22 at the fire house, located on U.S. 281 South just north of the Burnet municipal airport.
School-aged kids can get a free haircut during the event. And for families looking to get a few school-needed immunizations, the Seton Care-A-Van will be on site.
There also will be car-seat inspections provided by first responders, who will offer replacements as needed. Many people discover that their car seats aren’t secured properly or that they are in need of a new one.
Kids heading back to school can also pick up backpacks and school supplies.
But it’s not just about the serious business of returning to school. The fire department and other supporters have lined up a bounce house and other fun for the day.
Of course, the Burnet Fire Department, the Burnet Police Department and the Texas Parks and Wildlife game wardens will have their vehicles and equipment out on display. And the ever-popular fire clowns, Stem Nut and Hooks, will be on hand for the fun.
