BURNET — An upcoming event in Burnet captures the small-town images and spirit of Christmas with a parade, holiday vendors and the traditional lighting of the courthouse.

MARBLE FALLS — After more than six years at the helm of the Marble Falls Middle School, principal John Schumacher is moving on.

On Dec. 9, the Johnson City Independent School District board of trustees approved him as the district’s assistant superintendent. BURNET — Two people died after the pickup in which they were traveling left the roadway and landed in the water Dec. 7 just outside Burnet on CR 341, also known as Mormon Mill Road, according to a Department of Public Safety report.

GRANITE SHOALS — Fire investigators have blamed “unattended cooking” for a blaze that destroyed a mobile home on Dec. 7 on East Castleshoals Street.

Granite Shoals Fire Rescue crews received the call about 9:30 a.m. in the 200 block of East Castleshoals, Assistant Fire Chief Tim Campbell said.

MARBLE FALLS — In a move of “robbing Peter to pay Paul,” the Marble Falls Parks and Recreation Commission considered shaving funds from some park projects to cover major repairs to the city pool during a Dec. 9 meeting.

Parks and Recreation Director Robert Moss told the commissioners the time has come to take care of the structural needs of the pool’s pump room at an estimated cost of $40,000.

MARBLE FALLS — Area fire departments battled the cold as they fought a house fire Dec. 6 at the intersection of Seventh Street and Avenue E.

Nobody was home at the time of the fire, but officials said several pets were killed.

BURNET — Quest High School has a new principal: Dr. Douglas Marvin.

The Burnet Consolidated Independent School District board of trustees approved the hire during a special meeting Dec. 2.

MEADOWLAKES — With an eye toward improving an ailing budget, Hidden Falls Golf Club officials approved monthly payments for “lifetime memberships” established before the city purchased the facility.

The city of Meadowlakes acquired the golf facility in 2008, and, at the time, the council chose to honor so-called “lifetime” contractual agreements made by more than two dozen members that were handled by the previous privately owned company. COTTONWOOD SHORES — City leaders got their wish for slowing down traffic on FM 2147 going through the lakeside community.
