FROM STAFF REPORTS

MARBLE FALLS — After more than six years at the helm of the Marble Falls Middle School, principal John Schumacher is moving on.

On Dec. 9, the Johnson City Independent School District board of trustees approved him as the district’s assistant superintendent. Schumacher will continue at Marble Falls Middle School until sometime in January.

“I’ll be here working to serve our students and staff into January,” Schumacher said. “We are on the right path, the right direction, and I’m confident in our middle school staff and all of their efforts for our students to keep that momentum moving forward.”

Marble Falls Independent School District Superintendent Rob O’Connor said the district will appoint an interim principal at the middle school campus through the remainder of the academic year. The district will begin taking applications for the principal position as early as February.

O’Connor said the next step after taking applications would be to form a committee that would then begin the selection process for the next middle school principal. The superintendent said he hoped to have the new principal on campus in May so he or she could meet the staff and work alongside the interim principal for a few weeks.

Schumacher joined MFISD in 2003 as the assistant principal at the then-Marble Falls Primary School (now known as Colt Elementary School). He then served as the assistant middle school principal and the Colt Elementary principal before taking the Marble Falls Middle School top spot.

According to district officials, with the success Marble Falls Middle School has achieved in improving student performance in core academic areas, Schumacher has been in demand as a speaker at state-level educator and academic conferences. He also has served as a member of the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals Instructional Leadership Committee.

“Marble Falls Middle School has achieved unprecedented academic achievement over the last two years,” O’Connor said. “John has been instrumental during that time in collaborating with his staff to help our students achieve that academic success.”
