State reduces speed limit through Cottonwood Shores
FROM STAFF REPORTS
COTTONWOOD SHORES — City leaders got their wish for slowing down traffic on FM 2147 going through the lakeside community.
The Texas Transportation Commission approved reducing the speed limit from 50 mph to 45 mph for the stretch of highway that goes through Cottonwood Shores to the Texas 71 intersection west of Horseshoe Bay.
According to the Texas Department of Transportation, Cottonwood Shores city officials asked the state department to examine the speed limits on the roadway. The city of Horseshoe Bay leaders supported the request, according TxDOT.
After the request, TxDOT did a traffic study during the summer and spent additional time examining accident data before recommending the speed limit reduction.
“This is an important step in making the highway safer for all motorists and adjacent residents,” said Howard Lyons, the TxDOT area engineer. “Our top priority is safety, and the reduction will help make the drive on (FM) 2147 better for all.”
The speed-limit reduction stretches from the eastern city limits of Cottonwood Shores to the Texas 71 intersection.
Maintenance crews will begin installing the new 45 mph speed-limit signs on the road beginning Dec. 9.
The new speed limit is not enforceable until all the signs are in place.
