Emergency crews cleared an accident that stalled traffic during the morning rush hour about 8:15 a.m. Jan. 23 at the intersection of RR 1431 and U.S. 281 in Marble Falls. According to Marble Falls police, a Nissan Ultima was in the turn lane on 1431 attempting to turn north on 281 but failed to yield the right of way to an oncoming Ford Mustang. MARBLE FALLS — A mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow is expected late Jan. 23 and early Jan. 24 for the Highland Lakes, making morning commutes a little tricky.
Drivers could see snow flurries and icy patches on roads and overpasses the morning of Jan. 24.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures should fall to right above freezing by 5 p.m. Jan. 23 with a chance of freezing rain and sleet starting around 7 p.m. and potentially turning into snow overnight with a possible accumulation of less than one inch. MARBLE FALLS — Marble Falls Economic Development Corp. officials and owners of a fledgling microbrewery obtained more than enough signatures needed on a petition to offer an alcohol-sale-and-consumption option to voters, officials said.
Initially, petitioners calculated they needed 436 registered Marble Falls voters based on 35 percent of participants in the last gubernatorial election but discovered they actually needed 463 names. Marble Falls Area Volunteer Firefighters douse a fire in a workshop/living quarters about 10 a.m. Jan. 15 that leapt onto an adjacent house, located in the 7700 block of RR 1431 east of Marble Falls. Crews saved the home, where fire crept through the attic. No injuries were reported and no one was inside at the time. The fire marshal is investigating the cause. Staff photo by Connie Swinney

MARBLE FALLS — A group trying to place an alcohol/consumption sales option on the May city ballot needs a little more than three dozen registered voter signatures by Jan. 17 to meet the next election deadline.
Marble Falls Economic Development Corp. members and the owners of the fledgling Save The World Brewing Co. are circulating petitions that have secured 400 of the 436 signatures needed to place an item on the May 10 ballot to allow for extending the boundaries of the on-premises sale and consumption of alcohol.
