BURNET — A former local and state Republican Party official accepted a plea deal Jan. 11 in a Burnet County courtroom that has him headed to anger management classes for punching a Burnet newspaper editor last May.

Johnnie B. Rogers, 63, pled no contest in Judge Robert C. Richardson’s court to a Class A misdemeanor assault charge. A Burnet County Grand Jury indicted him in June 2012 on the third-degree felony charge of injury to a child/elderly/disabled with intent to do bodily injury.

MARBLE FALLS — A Marble Falls Area EMS ambulance crashed Jan. 9 about 10 a.m. on U.S. 281, sending the two medics on board as well as a patient to Seton Medical Center Williamson in Round Rock.

MARBLE FALLS — Remote-controlled systems for central air-conditioning and sprinklers highlighted the regular meeting of the Marble Falls Parks and Recreation Commission on Jan. 7.

Parks and Recreation Director Robert Moss showed the commissioners the software the city purchased to operate both systems.

GRANITE SHOALS — City council members have terminated the employment of City Manager Judy Miller and voted against a contract renewal following a string of citizens’ complaints.

“This was not a spur-of-the-moment decision,” said Granite Shoals Mayor Dennis Maier of the decision at a special meeting Jan. 3.

MARBLE FALLS — Growing a small business takes both dollars and “sense,” according to local business leaders.

“It’s competitive. It’s a wonderful environment, but it has lots of challenges. A mom-and-pop can’t do it all,” said Bill Rives, executive director of the Marble Falls/Lake LBJ Chamber of Commerce. “But you have to have a good staff.”

MARBLE FALLS — A strong storm system is forecast for the Highland Lakes on Jan. 8-9.

The National Weather Service predicts a 100 percent chance of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms both days with temperatures in the low 50s all day Jan. 8 and an east-northeast wind 5-10 mph.

BURNET — Two teen girls were taken to the hospital Jan. 3 after the 2008 Porsche in which they were riding crashed into a tree off Park Road 4, according to a Texas Department of Public Safety report.

Tiffany Brooke Tubb, 17, of Dallas was taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge in Austin shortly after the accident that was reported at 7:35 p.m. Information about her condition is pending.
