FROM STAFF REPORTS

BURNET — Burnet Consolidated Independent School District voters still have a day of early voting for the Tax Ratification Election. Early voting runs through Tuesday, Aug. 21.

Early voting can be done at the BCISD Central Administration Office, 208 E. Brier St., from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. during regular business hours.

Election day is Saturday, Aug. 25.

In July, BCISD Board of Trustees called for the Tax Ratification Election. If approved by voters, it would allow the district to reduce the property tax rate from $1.28 per $100 valuation to $1.26. The district is doing this by shifting 2 cents from the Interest and Sinking portion of the tax rate to the Maintenance and Operation portion. The plan would also allow for the district to cut an additional 2 cents off the Interest and Sinking portion.

Officials said this would generate an additional $600,000 for BCISD. This comes at a crucial time as the district prepares to send $500,000 to the state in the 2018-19 budget as its Chapter 41 (Robin Hood) payment. The district is looking at sending $2 million in locally generated tax revenue to the state in the 2019-20 fiscal year for its Chapter 41 payment.

On election day Aug. 25, polls are open 7 a.m.-7 p.m.

Polling sites are:

• Voting Precincts 1, 2, 5, 7, 8, 9 (portion with BCISD), 11, 17, and 20 (portion within BCISD) — Burnet County Courthouse, 220 S. Pierce St. in Burnet

• Voting Precincts 6 (within BCISD), 10, 12, 13, 14, 15, and 16 — Bertram library, 170 N. Gabriel St. in Bertram

• Llano County Voting Precincts (within BCISD) 203, 204, and 205 — Lakeshore Branch Library, 7346 RR 261 in Buchanan Dam
