ROUND ROCK — Several high school athletes will compete at a regional meet of the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation on July 12.
Running events start at 9 a.m. at Dragon Stadium on the Round Rock High School campus, 300 N. Lake Creek. They are Natalie Schulz, Maddie Johnson, Chase Martin and Lauren Loader, all of Marble Falls High School, and Brock Foster and Cole Woodrum, both of Burnet High School. Recent Marble Falls graduate Cody Schulz, who will be an Angelo State University track-and-field athlete, also will be competing.
Coach Anthony Torns said participating in summer track meets is invaluable, especially for those who concentrate on only track and field.
“When you’re only doing one sport, it’ll only help you to keep going,” he said.
These athletes train for several months. Having meets such as this one breaks up the monotony of training, he added.
Torns said Cody Schulz wanted to compete because his Marble Falls track season was cut short.
“He was injured,” he said. “He wants to see what he’s capable of doing.”
The top three finishers in each event advance to the state meet in Corpus Christi on July 25-28.
