The Highland Lakes Master Gardeners planning committee recently met to discuss the 15th annual Hill Country Lawn & Garden Show. The free event is 9 a.m.-4 p.m. March 23 at the Burnet Community Center, 401 E. Jackson St. in Burnet. Native and exotic houseplants, herbs, flowers, vegetables and garden supplies will be sold at the event. The show also features demonstrations, children’s activities, guest speakers and chances to win prizes. BURNET — A 31-year-old man who has already served prison time for drug-related crimes is headed back to the penitentiary after a Burnet County jury sentenced him Jan. 15 on the first-degree felony of manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance.

MARBLE FALLS — Jeff Downing admits his knowledge about nocturnal birds of prey is only based on what he’s “heard.”
“I’m a semi-insomniac. I’m up at 2 o’clock in the morning,” said Downing, who lives in Marble Falls. “I’ll sit out there on the porch. You can hear them communicating off in the distance.”

KINGSLAND — When Barbara Selby talks about quilting, it’s a matter of cloth and thread. She’ll mention those things, but, for Selby, it goes well beyond the materials.
“Quilting is like the threads of life,” she said. “There’s always a story behind the quilt.” And during the sixth annual Kingsland Quilt Show, Jan. 18-19 at the Kingsland Convention and Community Center, people can take in hundreds of similar stories.
