Marble Falls Tsunami swim team sends 19 to state

NEW BRAUNFELS — The Marble Falls Tsunami swim team is sending 19 members to the state meet of the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation thanks to their finishes at the Region III meet July 13.
To qualify for state, which will be in Corpus Christi on July 25, swimmers had to finish in the top three in each event. Sixteen regions make up the federation.
“A lot of work and preparation goes into a successful summer swim program,” head coach Martha Montoya said. “I’m proud of all of my swimmers as it is clear they have improved by taking instruction and applying what they learned. Some of these athletes have swam for many years, while others are new swimmers who are experiencing a new love for the sport.”
Montoya started the swim program five years ago with fewer than 25 swimmers. The team now has 60 participants.
“They were eager to learn about different strokes, technique and how to compete,” she said. “It is clear the word is spreading of a local swim team.”
