 Classic cars, bluegrass music and Blue Bell ice cream on a spring day in Llano — now that’s how to spend Memorial Day weekend in the Highland Lakes.

This year’s Blue Bell/Bluegrass Classic Car Show & Festival in Llano is May 24-27.

Located on the town square on Main Street and Texas 16, the event offers plenty of fun and music and gallons of yummy ice cream.

With Blue Bell Ice Cream as a title sponsor, the Llano event, festival goers are treated to free ice cream during the festival along with classic cars and bluegrass music.

The weekend starts with the Taste of Llano event at 6 p.m. May 24 at the American Legion Hall. That event is sponsored by the Llano Chamber of Commerce. Cost is $5 per person plus a canned good. The proceeds and food go to the food pantry.

Put your dancing shoes on to the street dance the Western Swing on Haynie Street, at 8 p.m. Llano County Library System Foundation sponsors and charges $10 for tickets bought in advance and $15 at the door. Coolers are allowed, but there is a $5 charge per cooler.

Festivities on May 25 get under way at 8:30 a.m. when the Highland Lakes Honor Guard, posts colors, observes a moment of silence and plays taps at the downtown square.

Bluegrass music and the car competition begin at 9 a.m.

The nostalgic car cruise that begins at 6 p.m. at Inman’s Kitchen and Catering Service, Texas 29 and 71 West. It ends at the Railyard district where car awards will be announced. The day ends with The Flashbacks playing all the “oldies” at the Railyard Depot. A bluegrass jam at the Badu House, 601 Bessemer Ave., will be happening at the same time.

The bluegrass festival starts again at 10 a.m. May 26 with car club judging at 10 a.m. and an awards presentations at 2:30 p.m.

SPICEWOOD — Burnet County investigators arrested three people in connection with two bodies found following a fire at a Spicewood residence.
