MARBLE FALLS — High winds and more rain are expected to hit the Highland Lakes as the worst of Tropical Storm Hermine passes near Marble Falls from 3-5 p.m., the National Weather Service reported.

LLANO — A 20-year-old West Texas A&M University football player died Friday after the Ford F-350 pickup he was driving rolled over on Texas 71 in northwest Llano County.

MARBLE FALLS — The Marble Falls Sunday Softball League is now registering teams for the fall.

Cost is $100. Squads must furnish their own game balls and must follow the same rules from the summer league.

There’s an eight-team maximum with games played Sunday afternoons beginning at 3 p.m.

Deadline for entry is 5 p.m. Sept. 24. To register, call Thomas Jacobs at (512) 203-1646.

MARBLE FALLS — With September recognized as National Disaster Preparedness Month, community leaders gathered this week to discuss ways of ensuring residents are ready for the next emergency.

The 2010 Upward Bound football season kicked off Saturday at Faith Academy Field east of Marble Falls. LLANO — Family and friends bid a mournful farewell Monday to Kingsland pharmacist and rancher Warren Dale Freeman, who died last week when his tractor flipped over.
