MARBLE FALLS — Down to its last four outs, the Marble Falls High School softball team needed to quickly score runs against Leander in the District 25-4A opener Feb. 26.
In the sixth inning, Marble Falls freshman Makenzie Carpenter hit an RBI single and Skyler Riley recorded a two-run double to put the Lady Mustangs on the board and tie the game 3-3, sending the contest into extra innings.But it wasn’t meant to be as Marble Falls lost 5-3 in nine innings.
Still, Lady Mustangs head coach Tino Salazar said his players did not quit.
“We came back and tied it up,” he said. “It was good to see.”
He wasn’t surprised the contest was close, saying it’s indicative of the talent in this district.
“I just told the girls it’s going to be like this every Tuesday and Friday night,” he said. “We have to know going into it. We have to keep working hard and keep plugging away.”

ON DEFENSE: Pitcher Carpenter (9-1) gave up 3 earned runs off 7 hits and 15 strikeouts; Marble Falls committed 2 errors resulting in 2 unearned runs.
RECORDS: Marble Falls is 11-1 overall and 0-1 in District 25-4A play; Leander is 1-0 in district play.
