MARBLE FALLS — Quick thinking by some neighbors helped extinguish an apparent electrical blaze at a business on Commerce Street April 21, officials said.

MARBLE FALLS — Three students have qualified for the Texas Junior High Rodeo Association State Finals May 29-June 4 in Gonzales.

GRANITE SHOALS —When a petition put the skids on the City Council’s decision to accept a $14.7 million loan last November for a proposed wastewater treatment facility, it may have ended up adding to the project’s overall costs.

 

HOUSTON — A coach once known in Burnet County for the victories of his select girls’ basketball team agreed to an eight-year prison sentence April 12 after being charged with sexually assaulting a teenager in July 2008.

COTTONWOOD SHORES — Changing a personnel policy to give city jobs to felons 10 years after their conviction is getting a thumbs up from the City Council.

The council still has to formally adopt the policy. The issue became contentious after former interim police chief and Place 4 council candidate Frank Smith raised issues about two residents with felony convictions from more than a decade ago serving as city volunteers.

This ewe — owned by Marble Falls Police Chief Mark Whitacre and his wife Bonnie — gave birth to a set of quadruplets two weeks ago — quite a rarity for a sheep, according to the experts. MARBLE FALLS — If Marble Falls is to become a true tourism mecca, City Hall and the Marble Falls/Lake LBJ Chamber of Commerce must work together more to put the city on the map, the mayor said this week. COTTONWOOD SHORES — A review of personnel policies by the city is just a smokescreen to allow those with criminal records to serve on boards and commissions, a cop turned 
political candidate is 
charging.

“This all appears to be unethical and dishonest,” said Frank Smith, the former interim police chief and now a candidate for Place 4 in the May 14 election.
