MARBLE FALLS — When Cassandra Chambliss’ son was a Cub Scout, he and his troop would help lay Christmas wreaths on the graves of veterans at a local cemetery.

“It was such an honor to be a part of something like that,” Chambliss said. But for some reason, the local endeavor ended though it remained a major event each Christmas at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia. AUSTIN — With parts of Texas in the midst of a persistent, severe drought, the Lower Colorado River Authority will seek permission from the state to curtail releases of interruptible stored water from the Highland Lakes for downstream irrigation for the fourth year in a row.

BURNET — As a fire consumed a vacant house and a nearby storage building Nov. 20, the Burnet Fire Department just let it burn.
