LLANO — The pilot of a single-engine Cessna Columbia 350 walked away Feb. 27 following a "hard landing" at the city’s airport, officials said.

Gary Williams, 61, of Montgomery was attempting a landing at the Llano Municipal Airport at 3:50 p.m. when high winds caught the airplane, according to a Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman.

MARBLE FALLS — After a long and sometimes rocky courtship, the Economic Development Corp and Ronn Motor Co. are now partners — again.

Earlier this week, the motor company signed a lease for space in a building the EDC owns and plans to convert into a future vocational-technical center.

HORSESHOE BAY — By a unanimous decision this week, the City Council passed a $15 million plan to improve about 50 miles of local streets — but the measure also calls for a small tax hike.

The council voted 5-0 during their meeting.

BURNET — A Bertram man who told law enforcement they would never find evidence linking him to a 2002 boating death on Lake Buchanan is a step closer to standing trial, officials said.

Legendary performer Little Jimmy Dickens brought with him a few other longtime Grand Ole Opry artists — Tony Booth, Curtis Potter and Frankie Miller — along with Justin Trevino and Rance Norton to his two performances at the Marble Falls Opry Jan. 29 at the Uptown Marble Theater, 218 Main St. in Marble Falls.

The 90-year-old Dickens is the oldest living member of the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tenn. His biggest hit, ‘May the Bird of Paradise Fly Up Your Nose,’ was released in 1965, reaching No. 1 on the country chart and No. 15 on the pop chart. Photos by Diana Cox

GRANITE SHOALS — The City Council postponed a vote on whether to limit or outlaw "short-term" rentals until February to give the incoming city manager an opportunity to offer her suggestions.

Meanwhile, the council also approved applying for a $500,000 state grant to develop parks and recreational venues on City Hall property where a world-class tennis facility is already being built.

GRANITE SHOALS — Officials with the national governing body for tennis said Friday they plan to sanction events at the Andy Roddick Highland Lakes International Tennis Center, which promises to bring millions of dollars to the city.

Crews worked to repair a waterline that burst at Main and Sixth streets Tuesday morning. A Marble Falls Public Works Department staff member said frigid temperatures overnight and an aging line contributed to the break in the pipe. GRANITE SHOALS — After spending more than four hours behind closed doors Tuesday, council members emerged and said they are one step closer to naming a new city manager.

"We should be ready to extend an offer (Jan. 11)," Mayor Frank Reilly said. "We’re getting pretty close to coming to a conclusion."

The council held a special meeting Tuesday to confer with a search consultant and then interviewed a single candidate for three hours.

The city began its search for a permanent city manager in June after interim City Manager John Gayle stepped down, citing family reasons. Gayle held the post for more than four years.

John Hatchel was hired in June as the new interim city manager.

The city contracted with Jim Ray of Ray Associates Inc. to help search for a permanent city manager.

Ray said 66 people applied.

"We whittled it down to a number of 15 or 16 that we looked very closely at the resumes. And of that we have interviewed six people," Reilly said. "We’ve had a great group of people. It’s been a broad base of people from across the state and some from outside the state."

The latest discussion marked the third round of the interview process.

The council could make an offer to a finalist during its next regular meeting 7 p.m. Jan. 11 at City Hall, 2221 N. Phillips Ranch Road.
