HIGHLAND HAVEN — Despite a positive E. coli bacteria test in two raw water wells, Highland Haven officials said the chlorination process will keep the city’s drinking water safe.

Highland Haven Mayor Peter Freehill said source samples results Sept. 10 came back positive for the bacteria, prompting officials to send out an alert to residents. Highland Haven is a bedroom community of about 400 residents located on Lake LBJ in western Burnet County.

MARBLE FALLS — A Scott & White hospital project faces delays, as contract work is renegotiated to meet budget projections and the federal bureaucratic process is wade through for approval of site plans for the facility, officials said.Construction is under way at the 120-acre Hurd Regional Medical Center, 800 Texas 71 West just off U.S. 281, including on an emergency room and a hospital tower expected to feature 46 medical/surgical and intensive-care unit beds within a 200,000-square-foot facility. Initially, the projected completion date was fall 2014.

COTTONWOOD SHORES — A Marble Falls man is recovering from jaw surgery, while authorities search for a suspect who allegedly assaulted the victim at a local restaurant and tavern, investigators said.

The incident happened about 1 a.m. Sept. 8 at On the Rocks, located on Cottonwood Drive just off FM 2147, according to a Cottonwood Shores Police Department report.

MARBLE FALLS — After an in-depth discussion, the Marble Falls Parks and Recreation commissioners verified the bonds dealing with athletic fields and the aquatics center during the regular meeting Sept. 9.

BERTRAM — Water prices in Bertram soon might be rising after the city council learned the rates did not cover operations.

“(The council has) definitely been made aware that water rates are not even breaking even with our current rate,” city secretary Evan Milliorn said. “Council decided to increase the base rate for all water customers.”

MARBLE FALLS — Bookworms soon can again enjoy browsing aisles of hardcovers and pondering the Dewey Decimal System.

The Marble Falls Public Library is scheduled to reopen its doors Sept. 3. The library closed July 20 for renovations, including new paint, carpet, lighting and electrical work.

BURNET — The Herman Brown Free Library will be closed Sept. 2 for Labor Day and again Sept. 9-13 for modifications and repairs.

During this time, items may be returned in the deposit slot on the west side of the building, 100 E. Washington.

Library card holders also may check out eBooks and eAudiobooks on the library’s website, www.hermanbrownlibrary.org. Wi-Fi still will be available outside the library.
