Police look for suspect in Cottonwood Shores bar assault; victim has broken jaw

FROM STAFF REPORTS

COTTONWOOD SHORES — A Marble Falls man is recovering from jaw surgery, while authorities search for a suspect who allegedly assaulted the victim at a local restaurant and tavern, investigators said.

The incident happened about 1 a.m. Sept. 8 at On the Rocks, located on Cottonwood Drive just off FM 2147, according to a Cottonwood Shores Police Department report.

Witnesses told police, a man in his 30s blind-sided another patron, punching him until staff came to the victim’s aid.

“For reasons unknown, the subject walked up behind him and assaulted him, knocked him off the chair onto the ground,” Cottonwood Shores Police Chief Harold Piatt said. “Then, the subject straddled him and started to pummel him, and bar employees finally pulled the man off him.

“The last thing he remembers is he was sitting in the bar, and then, he woke up in the hospital,” Piatt added.

The victim was first transported to Llano Memorial Hospital by ambulance and then airlifted to University Medical Center Brackenridge in Austin, where he underwent surgery to repair his jaw.

Witnesses told police the suspect left on foot after he was confronted by restaurant staff.

“This is a pretty unusual situation. This is not common,” Piatt said. “They’ve had a couple of minor problems, like minor thefts, but this has never happened.”

The investigation and search for the suspect is continuing.
