MARBLE FALLS — Marble Falls Mayor George Russell made it official Oct. 28 when he announced his plans to seek the Republican nomination for the Burnet County judge’s seat during the March primary.

Earlier this year, Burnet County Judge Donna Klaeger announced she would not seek re-election.

HORSESHOE BAY — Opting for more control over consumer amenities options and an independent brand, Horseshoe Bay Resort will sever ties with the Marriott franchise for hotel operations, officials confirmed.

“Over the last few years, we held the Marriott flag. Horseshoe Bay Resort has a history of being an independent property since the ’70s, when it was first founded by the Hurd family,” Horseshoe Bay Resort spokesman Bryan Woodward said. “Horseshoe Bay is a very unique property … one of the few full lakes in the state of Texas, outstanding golf, yacht club, marina, jet center. COTTONWOOD SHORES — The haunted house once was an annual tradition for the Cottonwood Shores Volunteer Fire Department.

Perhaps, more important to the department, it also was an annual fundraiser.

LLANO — The gourds came out this month, but a select few in Llano won’t be used as Halloween decorations. Instead, Sherry Simpson is turning them into birdhouses to serve another purpose.

HORSESHOE BAY — When doctors began treating Horseshoe Bay firefighter Jeff Walker after an August car accident, they told his friends and family the father of three faced great odds in recovering.

COTTONWOOD SHORES — The Cottonwood Shores Volunteer Fire Department is in service after agreeing with the city council on a new contract.

The council signed the contract during a special meeting Oct. 24 after negotiations continued past the new fiscal year.
