MARBLE FALLS — Ryan Hardy believes every female 12 and older should learn something: how to defend themselves.

And he and his wife, Shari, are bringing that message and mission to the Highland Lakes starting Dec. 13 at the Marble Falls Athletic Club in the form of Krav Maga. While on the surface, Krav Maga might appear to be a martial art, Hardy pointed out it’s something much more. Continue reading “Krav Maga protects Israeli soldiers and now Highland Lakes residents”

SPICEWOOD — One of the biggest challenges as an educator for Spicewood Elementary School principal Leslie Baty is turning reluctant readers into voracious ones.

“Reading really does lay the foundation on pretty much on which the rest of their education is built,” she said. “But if they’re not reading or excited about reading, it can really cause problems, not just here at the elementary level but in the years to come. You have to be able to read, and it’s not just about doing it because you have to. Kids who read for pleasure typically become better students and learners in general.” Continue reading “Getting your reluctant reader to open a book — and enjoy it”
