COLLEGE STATION — Rain forced Faith Academy of Marble Falls head cross country coach Steve McCannon to find an alternate meet for the Flames on Sept. 15, which proved historical. The Lady Flames finished in the top two at a meet for the first time in the program’s history with 57 points behind University Interscholastic League member Fairfield’s 15.

“I’m really proud of the girls, and winning something as a team gives them confidence as we focus on state,” McCannon said.

The Faith boys team ran on the junior varsity level and gained valuable experience, the coach said.

“We have work to do, but I think the guys can sneak onto the podium,” he said.

RESULTS: Boys — 3, Reagan Vaughn, 13:15, 14, Alec Gonsales, 13:55, 15, Alex Defily, 14:08, 21, Jake Metcalf, 17:46. Girls — 8, Brandi Kuhlman, 13:57, 12, Sierra Brinkley, 14:17, 13, Christina Lykken, 14:21, 22, Rachel Ormsby, 15:52, 28, Peace Preston, 16:01.

QUOTABLE: “This meet was a good blend of competition for us. Winning state is a process, and this meet really started the process,” McCannon said.
