Burnet High School’s Victor Aviles ended a dominant track season with a standout performance at the 2025 UIL state track-and-field meet, which was held May 1-3 in Austin. The senior brought home two gold medals and one silver from three grueling races in a single day.

“Victor performed at an extremely high level, especially with the task at hand. Three races in one day is incredibly tough,” Burnet track coach Crystal Shipley told DailyTrib.com.

Aviles finished first in the 800-meter race with a time of 1:54.25 and in the 1600-meter with a time of 4:17.88. He placed second in the 3200-meter race, finishing in a remarkable 9:15.

This was not Aviles’ first time at state.

“He competed as a sophomore—won state in the 800. He qualified in all three (races) his junior year but was unable to compete due to an illness,” Shipley said.

His track journey began years ago.

“He fell in love with running as a seventh-grader in cross country with coach Kristi Jones,” Shipley said.

The road to this year’s state competition was marked by dominance.

“Victor took first place in all three of his events at the district, area, and regional meets. He has had a dominant senior season,” Shipley said.

While Aviles has not yet committed to a college, he plans to continue running at a higher level.

Coach Shipley praised Aviles, not just for his athleticism but for his character and leadership.

“Victor will be remembered as the most humble, most dedicated and hard-working athlete,” she said. “He is not a man of many words, but when he does speak, it is something very insightful or something pretty hilarious.”

Aviles’ teammates also admire and respect him.

“His teammates will remember him as the leader, the ‘legend’ (their words). They will miss just being around him and his work ethic, dedication, and leadership,” Shipley added. “The love that group has for each other is truly special. They are family.”
