Granite Shoals is proposing a lower property-tax rate and smaller budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year than the previous year.

The proposed budget will be considered during the Tuesday, Aug. 25, City Council meeting at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 2221 N. Phillips Ranch Road. Residents can participate in the public hearing.

The proposed budget includes $12.87 million in expenditures, down from the $14.6 million budget adopted for 2025-26

The proposed property-tax rate is $0.5339 per $100 of property value, down from the $0.5424 rate adopted for 2025-26. The proposed rate is the city’s voter-approval rate, making it the highest rate the city can adopt without the matter going to a vote.

Despite the lower proposed rate, the city projects $362,751, or 5.28 percent, more in property-tax revenue than under the current budget. Of that increase, $117,356 would come from new property added to the tax roll.

The general fund, the city’s main operating fund, includes $7.46 million in proposed expenditures. Police accounts for about $2.2 million, fire for $1.8 million and streets for about $690,000.

Street maintenance, a major focus of the previous budget, remains a priority in the proposed budget, along with water system improvements and enhancements to public parks
