The Thunder Rock sports complex in Marble Falls remains closed while the developer addresses construction issues identified during a city review, according to the city of Marble Falls. The park was expected to open in fall 2025, but has been closed without explanation until now.

According to city officials, the 26-acre facility at 1000 Flatrock Boulevard cannot open to the public until the city determines it meets the terms of a development agreement, city codes, and other applicable construction requirements. In its official statement, the city did not specify what work remains.

“Until the remaining work is completed and the facility is formally accepted, the sports complex will remain closed to the public,” reads an Aug. 20 media release issued by the city.

Under a 2020 development agreement, the developer is responsible for constructing the sports complex and conveying it to the city once it is complete. City legal counsel is currently working with the developer to resolve the outstanding construction issues without accruing additional costs for taxpayers.

“We understand the community is eager to see this facility open, and we are just as eager to make that happen,” City Manager Caleb Kraenzel said in a media release. “However, our responsibility is to ensure the project is completed as agreed before it is accepted by the city. We owe it to our residents to protect taxpayer dollars while ensuring this facility is safe, complete, and ready for the families who will use it.”

The complex was originally projected to open in fall 2025, according to Parks and Recreation Director Lacey Dingman in a June 2025 DailyTrib article. The city currently lists summer 2026 as the estimated completion date.

The facility includes multiple sports fields, restrooms, a 4,900-square-foot playground and a maintenance facility.

Discussions with the developer are ongoing, and the city will provide updates as information becomes available. The complex will remain closed until it is formally accepted by the city.
