The Marble Falls High School class of 2027 gathered at their campus visitor parking lot in the dark, early morning hours of Friday, Aug. 21, to watch the sun rise on their senior year. Senior Sunrise is an annual tradition at the high school, and a chance for the upperclassmen to kick off their last year together.

The seniors pointed to Hannah Welch as their chief that morning. The lifelong Marble Falls Mustang organized the event and brought her classmates together for a pancake breakfast and hangout.

“I think it’s really special that everybody wanted to come,” she told DailyTrib. “It’s just about trying to unite all the seniors before senior year. I think that is part of being a team, part of being a mustang, and having a community that wants to be part of something that is bigger than themselves.”

Senior Sunrise is a completely student-led event. Dozens of Mustangs trickled into the visitor parking lot as sunrise approached. The seniors brought no less than three griddles, which were used to fire up stacks of flapjacks for the class.

“It’s our last year together, so let’s make it fun,” Welch said, leaving a message for her classmates.
