BURNET — When Burnet High School band director Jason Jones and his student leaders gathered in late July to lay out the expectations for the upcoming marching season, one goal they stated almost immediately was to “make it to state.”

All high school bands probably hope for that, but it’s not just wishful thinking for the BHS band and the Highlandettes, which make up the Esprit de Corps. The Esprit de Corps regularly advances to the University Interscholastic League state marching band competition. The last time bands in Burnet’s classification were eligible to advance to state was 2012, and the Esprit de Corps placed third. MARBLE FALLS — Crews have built a water tank to expand the city’s water treatment plant capacity as part of a more than $5 million plant expansion project, Marble Falls officials said.

BURNET — The Burnet High School football team has already beaten the teams picked to finish second and fourth in District 13-4A Division I play.

Now, the Bulldogs (7-1 overall, 3-0 district) will try for the trifecta when they travel to Waco La Vega, 555 N. Texas 340 Loop in Waco, on Oct. 31 for a 7:30 p.m. start. The Pirates (3-5, 2-1) were chosen to finish third.
