Burnet girls perform well at regional track meet
CORPUS CHRISTI — After the Burnet High School girls track team finished in the top three in the pole vault at district, they were looking for the same results at the recent Class 3A Region IV Meet. But a strong breeze and stronger competition made it more difficult.
In the end, Lady Dawgs freshman Blake Skoog finished as the first alternate in the event. The Lady Dawgs’ 4×200-meter relay team of Bryanika Grady, Ashlyn Kerley, Blake Skoog and Riley Scott advanced to the finals in that event, finishing seventh. Burnet coach Doug Messer said the athletes competed well and “have provided a lot of promise for the future of track in Burnet.”
RESULTS: Pole vault – 3, Blake Skoog, 10-6, 7, Kimberley Kyle, 9-6, Brittney Barksdale, no height; high jump – 5, Bryanika Grady, 5-2; 4×200 relay – 7, Burnet (Grady, Ashlyn Kerley, Skoog, Riley Scott), 1:51.05.
QUOTABLE: “The meet was loaded with wonderful competition and an unwavering 35-40 mph ocean breeze,” Messer said.
