Twelve Highland Lakes runners advance to national cross-country meet

ROCKWALL — Twelve of 17 Highland Lakes Track Club runners qualified for the USA Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships thanks to their finishes at the XII national qualifier Nov. 17.

“This was a good meet for us,” coach Steve McCannon said. “The competition was strong, and we still had several top-five finishes. For many, this was only their second race.”

RESULTS: Boys — Sub bantam 2K: 10, Ryan Hoffman, 10:17, 13, Caden King, 14:23; bantam 3K: 12, Austin Flores, 14:07, 14, Clayton King, 14:13, 21, Collin Hughes, 15:09, 24, Dominik Flores, 15:35; Youth 4K: 4, Ryan Ray, 13:06; Intermediate 5K: 9, Casesy Wolleat, 18:38; Masters champion 5K: 1, coach Steve McCannon, 18:43. QUOTABLE: “We look forward to running against the nation’s best runners. The competition is tough, but we enjoy the challenge,” coach Steve McCannon said.
