GATESVILLE — The Burnet High School volleyball team lost to Gatesville 12-25, 27-25, 25-19, 17-25, 11-25 on Sept. 11.

Lady Dawgs head coach Salye Coles said her athletes played a good match, though they suffered through a slow start in the opening set.

After capturing the second and third games, the Lady Dawgs (17-6) looked to close out the match in the fourth. With a four-point lead, Burnet suffered an injury, and Gatesville seized the momentum.

“The Lady Dawgs would not allow adversity take them down lightly,” Coles said. “They played a strong, aggressive game five.”

QUOTABLE: “I was really proud of the girls. After Jill (Rosow) turned her ankle, they came out and fired the  ball in game five. They played with class and determination the entire time,” Coles said.

Georgetown East View def. Marble Falls

GEORGETOWN — The Marble Falls High School volleyball team lost to Georgetown East View 18-25, 8-25, 7-25 on Sept. 11.

Lady Mustangs head coach Casey Schubert said she was pleased with the way her players took the court.

First game, we came to play,” she said. “The second two sets, the girls looked defeated. I keep reminding them they have to give themselves a fighting chance. Any team can be beat on any day and that their hard work will pay off.”

Schubert noted East View’s players took advantage of some things that allowed them to excel.

“They were very tall — seemed to hit right over our blockers and were very smart hitters. (They) placed it wherever they wanted,” she said. “We struggled defensively.”

LLANO — The Llano High School volleyball team defeated Faith Academy of Marble Falls 21-25, 25-21, 25-16, 26-24 on Sept. 14 after losing to Lago Vista 21-25, 12-25, 22-25 on Sept. 11.
