Flames garner top 10 state finish
WACO — The Faith Academy boys track and field teams earned 30 points to finish eighth in the Class 2A state meet of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools on May 6-7.
Head coach Russ Roberts said that early in the season, the Flames would have struggled to finish in the top 10 at state, so he was proud of the way they competed.
“I thought it was a successful year because we were the district champions,” he said. “That was the first goal.”
The Flames were led by sophomore Jake Diamond, who lived up to his seeding in the pole vault.
He came in as the favorite and won the event by vaulting 12 feet.
“That was a good performance in crunch time,” Roberts said. “He set it as a goal before the season started. I was proud of him for that.”
