ROUND ROCK — The Burnet Middle School cross-country teams recently competed in the McNeil Invitational.

“This meet is the largest invitational in the state of Texas and the site of the state cross-country meet,” said coach Keri Waide.  Nearly 700 competitors competed in the middle school division.

“We haven’t run in two weeks, and I was afraid we might not see improved times,” the coach said. “However, practice has paid off with each runner improving their time from their last meet.”

Cory Cavender paced the Bullpups, finishing in 12 minutes, 29 seconds for 17th overall.

Cavender brought home a medal for his top-30 performance in the race.

Timothy Aguillon came in 62nd in 13:43, Jason Edmondson was 115th in 14:46, and Cole Lastly rounded out the Burnet runners, coming in 212th in 17:19. A total of 304 athletes were in the boys race.

Danielle Lindley was the Lady Pups’ top finisher, coming in 82nd in 15:16. Teammate Shaylah Hullum was 108th in 15:30, and Makena Crawford was 137th in 15:57.

A total of 376 runners were in the girls’ race.

The team will travel to Georgetown Saturday for its final warm-up before competing in the district meet in Lampasas Oct. 20.
