FREDERICKSBURG — The Burnet Middle School seventh-grade girls track team finished second at the district meet recently.

The Lady Pups scored 146 points, behind Liberty Hill’s 187 points.

"These girls came out to prove themselves and compete hard," coach Holly Schilling said, "and that is exactly what they did."

Riley Scott won three individual events: the high jump, triple jump and 200-meter dash. She also helped the 4×200 and 4×400-meter relay teams capture district titles, too.

Scott won the high jump by clearing 4 feet, 6 inches, while Blake Skoog finished second with a flop of 4-4.

In the triple jump, Scott’s mark of 31-10 ensured a gold medal, while Danielle Lindley placed fourth with a leap of 27-8 1/2.

Scott won the district crown in the open 200 after posting a time of 27.22 seconds, while Ashlyn Kerley was fourth in 29.46, and Skoog finished sixth in 30.24.

Kayla Glover finished third in the discus with a toss of 71-9 and third in the shot put with a heave of 29-03.

Shelby Wilson came in third in the long jump with a leap of 13-5 1/2, and Emily Nodecker finished fifth with a mark of 12-7 1/2.

Brittany Gwynne came in fourth in the pole vault after clearing 6-6, and Kerley was fifth by clearing 6-0.

Lindley won the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 45.22 seconds.

Wilson came in third in the 100 dash in 13.92 seconds.

Brandi Bond finished third in the 400 dash in 1:08.40.

The 4×200 relay team of Kerley, Bond, Megan Schmidt and Scott placed first in the 1:57.29.
The 4×400 relay team of Wilson, Bond, Lindley and Scott was first in 4:31.91.

The 4×100 relay team of Lindley, Schmidt, Skoog and Wilson was third in 56.85 seconds.

Schilling said the showings were the result of traits that can’t be measured with tape or a stopwatch.

"I cannot say enough about the character and work ethic that these girls have," she said. "They stepped out in every event and gave everything they had."

What made the finish even better was the Lady Pups also had other hurdles leading up to the meet, the coach said.

"We battled some injuries this week, but the girls sacrificed and pushed through the pain to perform to the best of their ability," she said. "As our track season comes to a close, the girls coaching staff would like to say what a huge pleasure it has been working with such an outstanding group of young ladies. We are extremely proud of the accomplishments they have achieved during this track season."
