Science Mill Dino Day and other prehistoric fun

Young paleontologists can explore the world of dinosaurs large and small at two special events in June at the Science Mill in Johnson City.
On Wednesday, June 18, is the Mini Makers program “Tiny Tracks,” which playfully introduces preschoolers to the prehistoric creatures and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math). The program is 10:30-11:15 a.m. and includes a themed storytime and hands-on activity. Young visitors are encouraged to bring their favorite mini-dino toy to create tiny tracks for comparison to the real thing.
The Science Mill’s big event is Dino Discovery Day, which is Saturday, June 21, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The fun-packed adventure features actitivites for all ages, including:
- Prehistoric Portraits—Explore the world of extinct organisms to see how scientists piece together clues to figure out what dinosaurs looked like.
- Jurassic Explorer Field Notebook—Embark on a museum-wide field exploration, finding facts, solving puzzles, and creating your own one-of-a-kind dinosaur.
- Pair-odactyls—Use clues left behind by prehistoric creatures to match fossils to their ancient owners.
- Special movie showings—“Dinosaurs Alive” (2D) and “Waking T-Rex: The Story of Sue” (3D)
- Special guest—Staff from the Heritage Museum of the Texas Hill Country will bring fossils, castings of actual dinosaur tracks, dino-themed activities, and their extensive knowledge.
All Dino Discovery Day activities are included with general admission.
