Kingsland food pantry Sharing the Harvest partnered with Baylor Scott & White Health to provide backpacks and school supplies to 250 local students during the Stuff the Backpack event on Tuesday, Aug. 11.
Families received backpacks and classroom essentials, including pencils, folders, notebooks, colored pencils, markers, rulers, glue sticks and other school supplies. More than 100 families also received food from the pantry during the event.
The effort is part of Well Beyond, a program in which Baylor Scott & White supports community well-being through partnerships with local organizations.
“Participating in Stuff the Backpack is one way we help remove barriers for local families and ensure students have the resources they need to thrive in the classroom and beyond,” Robin Humphreys, Community Affairs at Baylor Scott & White Health, said. “We are honored to be part of a community that consistently comes together to support one another.”
Education and workforce development is one area of focus for Well Beyond. Supporting education can begin by helping children have the resources they need to succeed in the classroom.
“This event really reflects what makes this community special,” Cynthia Green, executive director of Sharing the Harvest, said. “When there is a need, people step up. We’re grateful to work alongside organizations like Baylor Scott & White that know the community and the families we serve.”
