A free pre-screening for an upcoming Texas Mission of Mercy dental clinic is from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, in the Highland Lakes Crisis Network office, 700 Avenue T, Building 4, in Marble Falls.

Make an appointment by calling 512-756-4265.

The nonprofit’s free dental clinic is Feb. 24-25 in the Marble Falls High School gymnasium, 2101 Mustang Drive. Walk-ins are accepted, but patients will be taken care of on a first-come, first-served basis.

Dental care is available for all ages.

“This is a blessing,” said patient Eva Guthrie of Burnet, whose teeth are suffering from cancer treatment medications. “It’s a lot of pain and worry. I couldn’t get this done without this.”

Guthrie was one of 130 patients who turned up for a pre-screening on Feb. 3 at a Burnet dental office. Volunteer dentists, hygienists, and others helped with processing patients.

During the two-day clinic later in February, about 250 volunteers will be on hand to work with the around 600 patients expected.

Care will include extractions, fillings, and cleanings. Not offered will be implants, full dentures, or impacted wisdom teeth, said Kent McCaulay, a volunteer dentist from Georgetown.

“We are able to take people out of pain, and we are able to prevent pain,” he said. “We give people an opportunity to smile again.”
