A local bank recently donated land to help advance a planned shared-use trail in Horseshoe Bay, designed for pedestrians, cyclists, and golf carts. The donation will also provide access to a future underpass beneath FM 2147.
The property, gifted to the city by Huntington Bank during an Aug. 25 council meeting, sits along a section of the planned trail that will connect areas north and west of FM 2147 with communities to the south and east. A portion of the property will provide access to a planned underpass near Summit Rock Boulevard, which is part of the project’s final phase and would require grant funding.
The bank’s donation is expected to save thousands of dollars in land-acquisition costs based on the commercial property’s assessed value, City Manager Jeff Koska said.
“We are very pleased we are able to have excellent working relationships with our local and regional partners to make this community project a reality for the community,” Koska told DailyTrib.
Cadence Bank originally offered the property as a land donation before Huntington acquired the bank. Huntington is now working with Horseshoe Bay to finalize the previous agreement, with phased construction expected to begin later this year once the tract is secured and designed.
Huntington Bank, Horseshoe Bay Resort, the Texas Department of Transportation, and the Lower Colorado River Authority have made significant contributions to the broader project.
The shared-use path, identified as a top priority by residents in a 2024 survey, is being developed in phases to connect the east and west sides of Horseshoe Bay. The first segment is planned between Azure and the City Center parking lot, with future phases extending toward Summit Rock Boulevard and eventually Bay West Boulevard and the main commercial area. The path is designed for pedestrians, cyclists, and golf cart users.
