Faith tennis player moves up to USTA champ status
MARBLE FALLS — Faith Academy of Marble Falls junior Reagan Vaughn has moved to champ status in the boys 16-and-under age group of the United States Tennis Association.
Vaughn, who finished as the Class 2A boys singles runner-up in the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools in April, has been traveling to various tournaments across the state.
Ranked No. 50 in the state at champ level, he needs 80 points to move to super champ status. Points are based on playing in specific tournaments and finishes.
In three tournaments, he earned 28 points.
“If you win the whole thing, you automatically move up to super champ status,” Vaughn said.
He has reached the quarterfinals, which is worth eight points. Losing in the semifinals yields 16 points, while playing in a final gives 32 points.
To help refine his skills, Vaughn attends tennis camp at Horseshoe Bay Resort under the direction of director Michelle Stallard and head tennis professional Aland Price. In addition, he plans to attend the John Newcombe Tennis Ranch in New Braunfels.
So how quickly will Vaughn move to super champ?
“I think it’ll take me a couple of months,” he said. “But I’ll do it.”
