Faith Academy boys, 7th with 33 points at state meet
WACO — Faith Academy junior pole vaulter Jake Diamond paced the Flames at the Class 2A state meet of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools thanks to successfully defending his state title May 4. And he did it with a performance of which most athletes dream.
Diamond already wrapped up the gold medal by clearing 12 feet but ended the competition with a new personal best of 12-8 and cleared it on his first attempt.
“He did it easily and looked outstanding,” Faith head coach Russ Roberts said.
Diamond barely missed clearing 13-2, Roberts said.
RESULTS: Pole vault: 1, Diamond, 12-8; 400: 3, Brian Freeman, 52.27; 800: 6, Casey Clendennen, 2:13.58; 4×100 relay: 5, Faith (Clendennen, Freeman, Michael Masterson, Royale Brown, J.C. Perea, Jake Diamond), 45.72; 4×400 relay: Faith (Diamond, Brown, Freeman, Clendennen), 3:39.12.
QUOTABLE: “Three men of the 4×1 and three men of the 4×4 will be back. We’ll start 2013 looking for one more guy in each race,” Roberts said.
