Faith girls track team wins eighth district title; boys place third
LEANDER — The Faith Academy track and field teams’ magic number is eight.
The Lady Flames earned 176.5 points to win the District 3-2A championship of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools April 11-12, their eighth district title.
Meanwhile, the boys team only needed eight athletes to finish third in the varsity division at the district meet. The Flames scored 87 points behind Temple Holy Trinity’s 111 and Austin Hill Country’s 90.
The Flames finished the event by winning the 1,600-meter relay in 3 minutes 41.4 seconds with a come-from-behind victory by senior Casey Clendennen for first place in the event.

QUOTABLE: “Only four of our girls that competed at this district meet were at the state track meet last year. Good programs reload, not rebuild. For the first time in school history, we qualified an athlete to regional in all 17 track and field events. I am really excited about that,” Faith head coach Steve McCannon said.
