Faith Academy 77, Austin Hill Country 29

MARBLE FALLS — A 20-2 lead after the first quarter propelled the Faith Academy girls basketball team to a 77-29 victory against Austin Hill Country Jan. 3.

The Lady Flames (18-4, 1-0) extended their district winning streak to 57 consecutive contests.

"The streak doesn’t mean anything to me," head coach Jerry English said. "The first district game win is very important. I feel like we’re hopefully putting it into turbo charge."

Junior guard Bailey Brinkley scored eight of the Lady Flames’ 20 points in the first period, while senior post Brooke Field added five.

"I was shocked the game got so one-sided so quickly," English said. "I really did like the way my kids hustled."

Because of the large lead, the coach was able to substitute freely and each Lady Flame, except for two freshmen, scored.

"I thought we did a pretty good job today scoring," English said.

Freshman guard Taylor Denton found another gear, he added. She picked up her defensive intensity and added two 3-pointers and two 2-pointers in the third period.

Faith will travel to face Bulverde Bracken, 670 Old Boerne Road in Bulverde, 6 p.m. Jan. 6.
