Lady Mustangs fall to No. 3 Canyon in tourney
MANSFIELD — The Marble Falls High School girls basketball team lost to Canyon 56-16 on Dec. 27 in the opener of the Mansfield Rotary Invitational Tournament.
The Lady Mustangs (10-9, 1-1) only scored three points in the second half against the Class 4A’s No. 3-ranked team in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches’ poll.
Canyon, the defending state champion, took a 15-7 lead at the end of the first quarter and built it to 30-13 by the half. Canyon head coach Joe Lombard was named coach of the year last season by MaxPreps.com.
Marble Falls was led by sophomore guard Blanca Fonseca, who had six points and three rebounds, followed by sophomore post Haley Stephens’ four points and junior forward Katy Bartels and sophomore guard Sarah Stripling with three points each.
Marble Falls resumes play at 3 p.m. Dec. 27.
