MARBLE FALLS — The Marble Falls High School boys basketball team travels to  travel Wimberley for the Christmas Hoop Fest Tournament Dec. 27-29.

The Mustangs (4-12) will open against Austin Travis at 9 a.m. and then face Uvalde at 3 p.m. at Wimberley High, 100 Carney Lane in Wimberley.

Squads are guaranteed five games.

"Going into the tournament we’re definitely looking to keep our rhythm," head coach Bruce Etheridge said. "I’m hoping the players will come back in decent shape. We’re off for several days. I hope the guys will do some running."

Marble Falls received a district bye Dec. 20, which allowed it to face Austin High, losing 63-51.

Dripping Springs beat Cedar Park 55-50, Lake Travis defeated Leander Rouse 75-65, and Leander Vandegrift crushed Cedar Park Vista Ridge 65-46.

"The race in our district seems to be wide open," the coach said. "I really feel like (the tournament) is going to help us in our district race."

Though they lost to Austin High, the Mustangs played well, the coach said.

"I think it’s real big," he said. "Although we lost, I felt like we had some momentum going into the Christmas holiday. I know the guys were feeling pretty good after the game because of the level of competition. "

The Mustangs start District 25-4A play Jan. 3 against Cedar Park High.
