MARBLE FALLS — The Marble Falls High School boys basketball team is learning how to win a close game.

After losing to Austin St. Michael’s 52-43 and Fredericksburg 61-55, the Mustangs (2-8) defeated San Antonio Edison 54-49 Friday afternoon.

“It’s very important,” head coach Bruce Etheridge said. “We’ve been losing close games. (On Friday) we found a way to win. We executed down the stretch. We’re really happy.”

“I thought it was an ugly win,” he added. “This time for me, it’s a beautiful win. We didn’t play our best. We got a little lackadasical.”

With four minutes left in the game, Edison had a 45-41 lead. But the Mustangs went to their junior post Rey Baltazar, who scored from the low block. Senior post Galyn Griffin then converted an offensive rebound to tie the game.

Senior guard Clynt Powell scored on two drives to the basket and completed a three-point play for a 52-47 lead.
