Mustang tennis team begins district with win

MARBLE FALLS — The Marble Falls High School tennis team started the District 25-4A campaign with a convincing 13-6 win at Dripping Springs Sept. 9 but followed that with a loss to Leander Rouse 9-14 on Sept. 16.

The Mustangs (1-1) are playing for seedings for the district tournament  Oct. 4. Marble Falls also lost to Fredericksburg 6-13 on Sept. 13.

Head coach David McDonald was happy with the win at Dripping Springs, with the Mustangs winning all seven doubles matches.

“I can’t explain how we won all the doubles, and all we had to do was win three singles matches. I knew we’d do that.”

He especially was happy with the Lady Mustangs, led by junior Maddie Cryer and sophomore Hannah Dockery.

Even more impressive was that Marble Falls hadn’t played an opponent for two weeks, using that time to instead practice.

“It was sweet going to Dripping Springs,” McDonald said.

Rouse has two move-ins who have helped the Raiders, he said.

“Rouse is good,” he added. “They’re heavy at the top. Their top players moved down to No. 4, 5 and 6. We’re still building.”

Marble Falls will be back in action at 4 p.m. Sept. 23 when the team plays at Cedar Park Vista Ridge, 200 S. Vista Ridge Blvd. in Cedar Park.
