LLANO — Marble Falls High School golfer Ben Causgrove recorded a historic day for a Mustang at the Llano Invitational Thursday.
Causgrove was one stroke off of the school record, coach Lonnie Tackitt said.

“(Causgrove) was two under par,” the coach said.
Junior Ethan Turner shot 79 and won fourth in a three-man playoff, while junior Logan Clark shot an 80. Other team members were Chad Chesnut with an 84 and senior Nick Steffek, who recorded an 85.
The second team finished second and was led by Zack Wagner’s 79, which was good enough for sixth overall, and Collin Smith, who scored an 80.
Freshmen Nick O’Connor and Joe Portillo shot 85 and 87, respectively, which were both tournament bests.
As well as the Mustangs performed, they were looking for stronger results.
“They didn’t play as well as they wanted to,” Tackitt said. “We were actually playing better than that in practice. All four of those guys were shooting in the mid 70s or lower. We expected lower results than that.”
The coach said weather conditions and the course itself played well.
“It’s a course where if you can keep it in play, you can score,” he said. “If you’re getting too greedy, instead of making birdies you’re making doubles.”
